An Overview History of the Gray Rd Church of Christ – Cincinnati, Ohio

In July 1946, brothers and sisters of the church of Christ in Madisonville met to discuss the need to start a congregation downtown. It was agreed to begin the work to establish a congregation. Bro. and Sis. Jones volunteered their home as a meeting place until a building that could be afforded was found.

In September 1946 a store front building was secured on West 5th Street.

The congregation moved in September 1949 from West 5th to West Liberty Street.

In 1956, the first building was constructed (a basement) on West 7th Street.

In 1961, a lot was purchased on Beecher Street, and in 1962 the congregation began to meet in the initial structure built on the site. A major remodeling was done in 1973.

In 1987 land was purchased on Gray Rd for congregation growth. Ground was broken for a new facility in 1993 and the first services were held in May 1995.

An expansion of the Gray Road facility commenced in 2016 and was completed in 2017.

During the 74 years of our existence eight men serving in the role of minister have been instrumental in the life of the congregation. These men are Brothers Roy Robinson, B. B. Thompson, Cleaven Crawford, David Christmon, Richard A. Rose, Sr., Paul Hubbard, John R. Davis, David C. Penn and Jeremy J. Flowers. Ministers David Christmon, Richard A. Rose & Jeremy J. Flowers have ministered to our congregation for 66 years collectively with Bro. Christmon serving as minister for 25 years and Bro. Rose having served for 34 years.

Working alongside our ministers have been our Elders and Deacons.
